A sinusoidal wave is generated by the projection of simple harmonic motion onto a Cartesian plane (typically, the x axis is denoted as time). Five leading textbooks on sensation mislead their readers while attempting to illustrate methods of generating the graphical representation of a sine wave. Two types of errors are pointed out.
