This study dealt with the influence of two methods of assessing articulation upon the articulation scores of 45 four-year-old children. The children were tested by both an imitative and spontaneous method of articulatory assessment on each of 87 words taken from the Templin-Darley Tests of Articulation. The results indicated a significant difference between the two methods of stimulus presentation in the children's total articulation scores.
