Three aerial application aircraft, each fitted with a different kind of cockpit enclosure, were tested for the noise intensity present during normal operations. Even the best protected plane tested (one with a completely enclosed cockpit) presented a damaging level of noise. Except for the wind noise likely to be delivered to a pilot with his head in the air stream, a well-fitted pair of earplugs should protect against most of the physiologically damaging noise intensities encountered in this study.
